Architect and Founder of TerraLupa

Kara is an Architect and Founder of TerraLupa, a platform for ecological regeneration and re-establishing our connection to nature, encouraging design that promotes positive integration with local ecosystems and communities. She runs the Co-Lab Studio for AWW in Bristol and is a part-time Associate Lecturer at the University of West England.  Kara is also a Board Director for international organisation Land is Life and local organisation Artspace Lifespace, and has been part of the TEDxBristol

Sarah Jones-Morris (she/her)

Director of Landsmith Associates 

Sarah is the Director of Landsmith Associates, landscape architecture and urban design consultancy based in Bristol. She is passionate about the collaborative and interdisciplinary design process to inspire new places for people and nature, which contribute to health and well-being from detail design to strategy.  Sarah is a Fellow of the Landscape Institute, a Design Council Expert, a member of the Design West Review Panel and the founder of Bristol Soundwalks.

Dr Kate Langham (she/her)

Director of Langham Products

Kate is a designer and academic who specialises in participatory design processes. Her research focuses on co-design for the built environment, developing community-led urban developments.  Kate was Creative Director for Interface, a global leader in sustainable floor coverings and Programme Leader at Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton. She has lectured at conferences and universities around the world, sharing her passion for user-centred design.

Katie Lea (she/her)

Director of Place Studio

Katie is a Director of Place Studio, a small planning and urban design consultancy based in Bristol. Over the last ten years, she and her team at Place Studio have been working to place community engagement at the heart of planning and design processes.  Katie has worked with a wide range of organisations, from developers to local authorities, to parish and town councils and charities such as Rural Community Councils and Planning Aid Wales.

Joel Mills (he/him)

Senior Director of the American Institute of Architects’ Center for Communities by Design.

The Center is a leading provider of pro bono technical assistance and democratic design for community success. Its programs have catalyzed billions of dollars in sustainable development across the United States, helping to create some of the most vibrant places in America today. The Center’s design assistance process has been recognized with numerous awards and has been replicated and adapted across the world.
Joel’s 26-year career has been focused on strengthening civic capacity, public processes and civic institutions. This work has helped millions of people participate in democratic processes, visioning efforts, and community planning initiatives. He has delivered presentations, training content, workshops and public processes in over a dozen countries across 5 continents. In the United States, Joel has provided consultative services to hundreds of communities, leading participatory processes on the ground in over 85 communities across 35 states. His work has been featured in over 1,000 media stories.
He was a founding Board Member of the International Association for Public Participation’s United States Chapter. He has spoken at numerous international conferences concerning democratic urbanism and the role of democracy in urban success,
including serving as the Co-Convener of the Remaking Cities Congress in 2013. Joel is an Academician of the Academy of Urbanism in London, UK. He is the author of numerous articles on the relationship between democracy, civic capacity and community.

Dr Noha Nasser (she/her)

Noha is an urban designer, academic and social entrepreneur. She is the founding Director of MELA Social Enterprise on a mission to design inclusive public spaces. Noha is a Council of Europe Intercultural Cities Expert in Public Space and Fellow of the RSA. She co-edits the Journal, Urban Design International and is the author of the award-winning book ‘Bridging Cultures: the guide to social innovation in cosmopolitan cities’ (2015)

May is an Urban Designer and PhD student in planning and Environmental management at the University of Manchester. May's research focuses on UNESCO's World Heritage sites to understand the tensions and conflicts on the policy level and how these tensions are reflected in practice.
